Johannes Grau, started his first musical experience and training at St. Thomas Boys Choir in Leipzig. Already as a boys soprano he collected solo experiences under Kurt Masur and Thomaskantor Prof. Biller.
He studied singing at the Academy of Music ‘Hanns Eisler’ – Berlin with Prof. Scot Weir and was a member of the Song class with Prof. Semyon Skigin. Further studies were carried out at the ‘Conservatorio di Firenze‘, parallel to his studies in Berlin he also attended the ‘Conservatoire de Paris‘ under the direction of Prof. Yves Sotin.
Johannes Grau made his debut in Mozart’s The Magic Flute under the baton of GMD Stefan Klingele, he participated as a soloist in the world premiere ‘Vom Ende der Unschuld’ at “Kampnagel” – Hamburg, directed by Kirsten Harms .
The Baritone, Johannes Grau also gained experience in the ensemble of the Wuppertal stages – with roles in Tosca, Salome, Parsifal, the Tales of Hoffmann and as an aria soloist in a scenic production of Bach’s Johannes Passion under the direction of Jörg Halubek (conductor), Philipp Harnoncourt (director ). In new productions of Alban Berg’s opera LULU, Johannes Grau sang under the baton of GMD Toshiyuki Kamioka (Wuppertal) and GMD Timo Handschuh (Ulm). Furthermore he sang the opera Königskinder under the baton of GMD Sebastian Weigle (Frankfurt).
Johannes Grau participated in master classes with Peter Schreier and Dietrich Fischer-Diskau and is a fellow of the ”Richard Wagner – Assosiation’‘ Bayreuth. At the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil he teaches singing as a permanent assistant professor.
